False Alarm

So last night around 1am Matthew and I awoke to an alarm sounding--in our sleepiness we were unsure as to which alarm is was. Was it our security system? Grab the gun! Wait no I don't think its the security system--that's a different tone and it doesn't stop sounding. Wait what kind of alarm system stops sounding? We search the house for any smoke or flames (Matthew still with gun in hand) and nothing. Was it carbon monoxide/natural gas?? If so why was the store bought one not going off as well?? But it was just one from Target--so how much should you expect from that? The alarm sounded again and then stopped again...weird. Obviously something wasn't right. Now because we have the idea of carbon monoxide/natural gas in our minds we're not sure if the way we feel is because it's 1:30am and we were woken from a dead sleep by an alarm or if it is because of some potential danger. But we decided better safe than sorry (especially with this little one growing inside of me) so we grabbed numbers we needed, threw on some more clothes, grabbed the cats, and headed out to the truck and moved to the street (just in case the house decided to blow) and called the utility company telling them we may or may not have some sort of gas leak. So they sent out a service guy to come check it all out but they said they also treat this sort of situation as an emergency so we were transferred to 911 and they sent out a fire unit to come check it out as well. Fire truck/crew arrived quite quickly! Makes me feel good about timing if we were to have an emergency in the future! They first made sure we were feeling alright then went in and checked it all out but couldn't find anything. They told us though that the gas guy's reading tool (whatever it's called) was better than theirs so still to wait it out outside until he arrived to double check things. He arrived about 25 minutes after we had made the call...went in checked it all out and could find nothing...so must be a faulty system/alarm. Awesome. So here we are sitting outside at 2am (on a work night, mind you) and it was for no reason?!? But really I am not in the bit annoyed about it being a false alarm. I took the positive route and was thankful that it was just a false alarm and not a real emergency...I'll take that over the other any day or night! But I'd rather just get the system serviced and only have it sound when something really is wrong...sound like a plan!! Must make my way upstairs to get the phone and call whoever it is I should call to get it looked at/fixed.
